The Cynopsis Foundation Inc.

The Cynopsis Foundation, Inc., was established in April 2007 by The Turner Family.  Cynthia Turner is the President/CEO of Cynopsis Media, a television trade publication company, and the springboard for the Cynopsis Foundation.

The mission for the Foundation is pretty straight forward:

"Applaud unique ideas and efforts toward real human progress,
and provide funds where needed to a collection of minds that,
given a chance, may very well change the world forever."

A message from The Turner Family:

"We find ample unselfish reason for supporting causes seemingly remote from our own experience and reward.  As life rests on the brink of happiness and safety, we continually wonder who and how, why and where, when and what will change our existence for the better.   The Cynopsis Foundation, Inc. looks to help fill the need of those with the promise to improve our future and our world.

"Closer to home, we¹ve attained a new status as grandparents, aunt and uncles of the newest member of the family, Halle Anne born in June 2007.  With her birth, we¹ve fallen in love with the distant future.  Now the glimmer of our legacy is personal, and our interest cries out for investment.

"We hope you  will join us in supporting and contributing generously to the Kids in Need Foundation and EarthEcho International .  The children who will benefit represent our collective legacy, and it’s incumbent upon us to help them in any way we can.

"We are all at the top of our game.  We can quietly improve a world we won¹t even see.  Those we love will, though, so it¹s worth it."

The 2008 Cynopsis Foundation Charity Dinner & Auction was held August 21st in New York City, at Chelsea Pier Sixty. 100% of the proceeds of the event were earmarked for two inexorably connected causes – the furtherance of education and our environment.  This year’s Gift Recipients are the Kids in Need Foundation, and EarthEcho International.  For more information on the event, the auction, the auction items, the two charities, or how you can be a part of next year's event, please click on the menu links to the left.

Where will your funds go?

The Cynopsis Foundation, Inc., has very little administrative overhead, and the only major expense is the August 21st Gala Event at Chelsea Pier Sixty.  That means all profits but the original seed money of $100,000 will be donated to our two Gift Recipients - Kids In Need and EarthEcho International. In 2008, our second year, an additional $50,000 donation has been made to help support the ongoing works of the Cynopsis Foundation.  This money together with the original seed money of $50,000 is being invested carefully to continue to grow the funds available to the Foundation and thereby able to be given to our two gift recipients.

100% of the funds raised as a result of the Silent Auction and the LIVE Auction will go directly to the two charities of choice.

Read below for more information on both Kids in Need and EarthEcho International.

The SHOPA Kids In Need Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1995 by  the School, Home, & Office Products Association (SHOPA) because of the belief that the  school and office products industry has a direct responsibility to help improve education in general and children’s to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need. opportunities to fully participate in the classroom specifically.  The Foundation’s mission is to ensure that every child is prepared.

The Foundation helps to support 23 Resource Centers that comprise the Kids In Need National Network.  At these Centers, teachers are able to take back to their classrooms the supplies that they or their students need to optimize learning.  No school district, school, teacher, or student is ever charged for these supplies.  Through the Resource Centers and through a nationwide Teacher Grants program, the Kids In Need Foundation serves 1.5 million children and 100,000 teachers annually.  Since its founding, the Foundation has awarded nearly $900,000 in grants to teachers and distributed nearly $300 million worth of school supplies to children who would otherwise have to do without.  Kids In Need believes it’s as simple as a pencil ... a notebook ...  a glue stick:  children must have the tools they need to succeed.

EarthEcho International

EarthEcho International is a nonprofit organization founded in 2000 by Philippe and Alexandra Cousteau in honor of their father Philippe Cousteau Sr., son of the legendary explorer Jacques Yves Cousteau.

EarthEcho’s mission is to empower individuals to take action to sustain and enhance our water planet. We do this through media expeditions that result in the development of a broad spectrum of content such as documentaries, radio programs, and new media, as well as complimenting Web-based education materials that encourage sustainable consumer, legislative, and community action.

Funds from Cynopsis Foundation, Inc., will be used to support the capture of scientific learning and exploration that occurs during media expeditions and the translation of this into a series of education content: videos, blogs, resources, and interactive learning content for classrooms and individuals around the country via the internet. This content will bring real world exploration to a whole generation of youth that would otherwise never be exposed to these wonders. In addition funds may support such related projects as a post graduate fellowship for filmmakers; the creation of and competitive mini grants that fund student-created environmentally-based community improvement programs.
